1935 Dutch gramophone records survive

Extract from the article in the Holland Focus magazine edition of July-August 2014, written by Noel Jackling.

""When Ellen Waugh, widow of twenty times mayor of Albury, Alfred Waugh, died in Albury in 1956, their joint possessions were transported to a family farm not too far from the Victorian city of Benalla. In the 1980s, as time and life moved along, the possessions were moved to a small house property in Wangaratta, where the only available space was in the garden shed. There the jam-packed possessions were exposed to the exigencies of the boiling day-time heat and freezing night-time cold of the Victorian inland.

Ellen’s grand-niece Patricia Young was curious. Where were all the gifts? A search revealed many treasures including a telegram from Queen Wilhelmina, but a large tin box in a cupboard, covered with layers of dust, captured her special attention. When prised open, three gramophone records (12 inch 78 rpm) were revealed""

VOC ship Zuytdorp

What happened to survivors of VOC ship Zuytdorp?

The Zuytdorp was one of four VOC ships that wrecked on the coast of New Holland in 1712.
Nothing was known about the circumstances for nobody reached Batavia to tell the tale.
She had 286 people on board and her disappearance was a great loss for the VOC for she carried a large treasure of silver coins and other valuables, used for trading.
Historians showed little interest even when it became known through an Aboriginal woman, Ada Drage, in 1927.

People wanting to go from one island to the other could use a small plane. But the majority of the people rely on the ferry.
