Crime Stoppers: Operation ROAM

OPERATION “ROAM”

ROAMING somewhere in the city and suburban streets right across Australia is a really select group of 18 people Police are seeking to locate.
Operation ROAM is aimed at locating these 18 select people wanted by Australian Police who are either in Australia, or, in some cases, the information of their whereabouts overseas is believed known to people in Australia.

Some of these wanted persons are being sought by more than one jurisdiction, i.e. they have committed crimes in more than one State or Territory.

Tony Carter, Chairman of Crime Stoppers Australia said, “ these people have committed crimes in our community and we need the community to help us locate them. Crime Stoppers helps solve a crime every 14minutes somewhere in the world, thanks to a vigilant community”.
“Crime Stoppers is asking every member of the public to look out for these people, but not apprehend them.
If you see these people call us immediately on1800 333 000 number or send the information online at crimestoppers.com.au, either way you can remain totally anonymous, or call your local Police Station.
Carter added: “these people live somewhere, they have neighbours. How well do you know what your neighbour is up to, or has been up to? Or what activities they partook in before they moved next door?” Did they relocate from interstate and leave a crime legacy behind them?

Assistant Commissioner Peter Barrie of the New South Wales Police Force, who is representing all Australian Police Commissioner’s in this operation said “There is a wealth of untapped community information out there, at the moment we don’t fully know what they, ‘the community’ know”, we need the eyes and ears of the community, to make Australia a safer place.”
Barrie continued, “You, the community are your own first line of defense and your best weapon is the PHONE or computer - If you recognize anyone of these fugitives report it.”
In recent years Australian police forces have had a number of successful State based operations targeting wanted persons, two of note has been operation ROPE in Victoria, an on-going operation targeting persons wanted on breach of parole warrants.
Police had considerable success during INFRA RED 2009 by posting State based wanted persons alongside posters listing international fugitives.
This national operation follows the international success of operation INFRA, in 2009 and 2010, in which Crime Stoppers and Police in Australia and around the world coordinated a global fugitive hunt.
Crime Stoppers Australia is part of Crime Stoppers International.
